The Maitreya Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and advancing Buddhist chaplaincy in colleges and universities across the United States. We recognize the profound need for Buddhist chaplains in university settings to support the spiritual journeys of the next generation. As an ecumenical collective, we are committed to nourishing campus spiritual life, cultivating Buddhist practice and wisdom, and fostering intercultural dialogue among college communities.

NEEDS
As the number of college-aged Buddhists rises, there comes increasing needs to provide them with a network of spiritual support and guidance. The Maitreya Association is committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment for students during their critical period of exploration and growth. Our chaplaincy network works to ensure that students have access to spiritual care, resources, and community that enrich their spiritual and personal lives.
CHAPLAINCY
Buddhist chaplains play a crucial role in the lives of students. They are often the first point of contact for those seeking spiritual guidance, offering confidential counseling, meditation practice, and pastoral care. Their presence helps create community, fosters interfaith dialogue, and enhances students’ overall well-being. Yet, there are only a handful of Buddhist college chaplains compared to the overwhelming needs.
ADVOCATE
At Maitreya Association, we advocate for the establishment of more funded Buddhist chaplain positions across universities, where these valuable spiritual resources are essential. Our organization is dedicated to forming a network of support for chaplains as well as students, enhancing their endeavors in spiritual education, and helping them navigate the complexities of college life.
